Taroudant is a city located in the Sous Valley in the south of Morocco. First rising to prominence in the sixteenth century the Saadians briefly used Taroudant as the capital of the country, before they moved onwards to Marrakech with which it shares very similar fortified Medina walls and earns its nickname as the “Grandmother of Marrakech”. With ancient walls surrounding the city, narrow winding alleyways and vibrant souks, Taroudant still retains a truly Moroccan atmosphere at a relaxed pace. A city known for its fresh produce, local arts and crafts as well as grand gates and ramparts stooped in history; there is always something to see and do in Taroudant.
